Our Mission

Vision is a learned skill like walking, and sometimes we don’t learn to use our eyes correctly.  When we start reading, if our eyes do not work properly, as a team, we find it very difficult to focus on what we are reading or seeing what is written on the board.  Sometimes, we just stop looking because it is too tiring or hurts our eyes.  For some people vision therapy can help.  As a Vision Therapist I can sometimes help children learn to use their eyes properly.  It can make a big difference!

I have also worked with children who have learning disabilities like Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder.  Succeeding in school can be a struggle for some children.  You, or someone you know, may have to work more than twice as hard as other students and still barely get by.  If school is difficult for you, never give up!  Do not be afraid to speak up and tell your teacher, your parents, your friends, that you don’t understand.  Learning is the greatest thing in the world.  If you can’t learn the way things are being taught, you need to be taught the way you learn.  You are your own best advocate.  Speak up!

If you are a parent or a teacher who has ever wondered how you could help a child with a learning disability (diagnosed or not), you may find some useful information at http://www.ldonline.org.  LD OnLine is a service of The Learning Project at WETA, the public broadcasting station in Washington, D.C.  LD OnLine is the official website of the Coordinated Campaign for Learning Disabilities, a national campaign designed to promote public awareness of learning disabilities.

You can also contact LD OnLine via email <[email protected]> and/or subscribe to their newsletter which sends you links to a variety of helpful articles.

Learning differences are difficult for the students who do not learn in the same way as other students.  Learning differences also affect the parents, teachers, siblings and friends of the person with the difficulty.  LD OnLine is one of many resources that are available.
